What Are the Benefits of V-Rings?

A V-ring is generally fitted on the outer side of an oil seal or bearing to prevent dust and water spray from entering the system. It grips the shaft and rotates with it during operation. The V-ring lip keeps out dust and water by running against a metal face, so it does not cause wear on the shaft.
